The PMI Project Management Office Certified Professional (PMI-PMOCP™) is PMI®'s credential for professionals who support, create, and lead Project Management Offices (PMOs). Launched in 2026 as the successor to the PMO-CP originally developed by the PMO Global Alliance, it validates your ability to build value-oriented PMOs and drive strategic value across an organization. Its central idea is that every organization has unique needs, challenges, and culture, so the best PMO is tailored, not a one-size-fits-all model. The PMI-PMOCP™ is issued only by Project Management Institute (PMI®).

To apply for the PMI-PMOCP™, you need a mix of education, experience, and PMO-specific training. Secondary degree (high school diploma, GED, or global equivalent) 3 years of project-related experience within the last 8 years, OR an active PMP® in good standing A minimum of 10 contact hours of education in the specialized area of PMO. The 10-hour PMO education requirement can be met through the PMI-PMOCP™ Exam Prep Course.

The exam is based on the PMI-PMOCP™ Exam Content Outline and evaluates six domains: Organizational Development and Alignment (16%): aligning the PMO with strategy, culture, and organizational maturity PMO Strategic Elements (18%): value proposition, governance, portfolio alignment, and benefits realization PMO Design and Structuring (18%): PMO structures, functions, and implementation frameworks PMO Operations and Performance (15%): operating processes, performance indicators, and continuous improvement PMO Enhancement and Effectiveness (18%): evolving the PMO through metrics, engagement, and innovation People (15%): leadership, communication, and stakeholder management within a PMO. The exam focuses on strategic PMO judgment and value delivery, not administrative reporting.

After passing, PMI-PMOCP™ holders must earn 30 Professional Development Units (PDUs) every 3 years, aligned with the PMI® Talent Triangle, to keep the credential active.
